Impurity

Impurity explores the idea of what it is to be impure.

Purity is a concept that has been used against women for centuries in order to curtail expression, lest the woman be construed as less than pure.

Women's bodies in particular have been oppressed by the concept of purity. Transgender women have experienced this more than most. We are made impure. We are seen as a sexual fetish. Through psychiatric models we are told we are not real women if we embrace our sexuality.

Impurity is an exploration of what it is to be impure, disembodied. My work is a rebellion against what's forced on us and an expression of our own desire through the lens of what we've endured - embracing themes of disembodiment and objectification.
